The air flow is then routed to the turbo-cooler compressor or through the turbofan depending on the by-pass electric valve position. At the turbo-cooler compressor outlet, the air is cooled inside the main heat exchanger prior to entering the turbine section of the turbo-cooler. The purpose of the turbofan is to accelerate the cooling outside airflow through the exchangers when airplane True Air Speed is lower than 300 kt. -
Turbo-cooler The turbo-cooler is a single stage compressor and turbine. The turbo-cooler operates in conjunction with the heat exchangers and the water separator to produce cooled and dry air for the conditioning system.
