1. FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT
Portable fire extinguishers and protective breathing equipment is providedforfightingfires which may occur in theflight orpassengercompartment.

A. Portable Halon Fire Extinguishers
Ahand-operatedfire extinguisher containingHalon 1211 is installedin theflight compartment. Halon 1211is effective onelectrical, oilandfuelfires, andis suitable for use in cold weather. <0056>
There are three hand-operatedfire extinguishers containingHalon 1211installedin the aircraft. One extinguisheris locatedin the cockpit, onein theentrance storage compartment,and oneontherightaft cabin bulkhead. Halon 1211is effective on electrical, oilandfuelfires, andis suitable for use in cold weather.

Water extinguishers are effective on wood,paperand fabric fires. <0067>
Operatinginstructions are on thebottle placard. Effective dischargetime ofa2-
1/2 poundHalon bottle is 8to15 seconds. After using aHalon extinguisher, promptly ventilatethe compartment(after successfully extinguishingthefire)to reduce gasses producedbythefire andHalon.
Crew exposure to high levels of Halon vapors may result in dizziness, impaired coordination, and reducedmentalsharpness. Ifafireextinguisheristo bedischargedintheflightcompartment,allflightcrew must wear oxygen masks with EMERGENCY selected(100% oxygen).
