H. Passenger Oxygen System
NOTE
Thepassengeroxygensystemisnotapplicabletothe SpecialEdition andCUAaircraft.
The passengeroxygensystemprovideschemicallygeneratedoxygenforallcabin occupantsin the eventof cabin depressurization.
The oxygengenerators andoxygen masks are installed as part ofthepassenger service unitpaneland are available at allpassenger seats, in thelavatoryandatthe flightattendant station.
All oxygen compartmentdoors willopentopresentthe oxygen masks automaticallyif thecabin altitude reachesapproximately14,000feet.
Iftheautomatic systemfailstoopen thedoors, orifitis necessaryto overridethe automaticsystem, theflight crew canoperate the(guarded)PASSOXY switchlight on theoverheadpaneltoopenthe oxygendoors in thepassengerservice units. As a back-uptoelectricallyopeningthedoors, eachindividualoxygen compartmentdoor can be openedmanuallythrough arelease hole in thedoor.
Whenthe oxygen compartmentdoors are open,thepassengers willpullthe oxygen masktotheir face, whichpulls alanyard connectedto thefiringpin ofthe chemical oxygengenerator. This initiatestheflowof oxygentothepassenger’s oxygen mask. A flow indicatorin the supplytubewillshow green when oxygen isflowing. The reservoir bagsonthepassenger oxygen masks begins tofill with oxygen. The chemical oxygen generator supplies approximately13 minutesof oxygento each mask.

When activated, the oxygen generator surface temperature may reach 260 bC (500 bF). Do not touchorattempttoremovegenerator. Burninjurycan result. Ifanactivegeneratorisinadvertentlyremoved fromthecompartment,the generatormustbeplaced inametalcontainersuchasalavatoryorgalleysink. The generator’s heat will scorch other materials or fabrics.
