B. Extinguishing
Fire extinguishingin thelavatory waste papertowel container is initiatedautomatically. The systemconsistsof adisposable Halon fire extinguisherbottle withdualdischarge nozzles. Thebottle is mounted nearthewaste containerwiththe nozzles extending intothe waste container. Theendof eachdischarge nozzle is sealed with aheat sensitive capsule which, when subjectedto heat,meltsto release the extinguishing agentintothe waste container. A temperature indicating strip sensor is located on the insideofthe waste compartmentdoor. The sensoris usedtoprovide an indication that hightemperature hasbeen sensedin the compartmentandthatthebottle mayhave discharged.

1. MAIN LANDING GEAR OVERHEAT DETECTION
The main landinggearoverheatdetection system providesindication ofanoverheat condition in themain landinggear wheel wellbins. An overheat contion can becausedby overheatedbrakes orbrakefires. Thesystemconsistsoftwo overheatdetection sensor loopsand anoverheatdetection unit.
The sensor loops are installed aroundthetopinnersurface of each main wheel wellbin and are connectedto thedetection unit whichis installed in theforward avionics compartment.
The overheatdetection unit continuously monitors theloopsfor overtemperature conditions andsystem faults(short circuits). If an overheatcondition is detectedbytheunit,in either wheel wellbin, asignalis senttotheEICAStodisplay a MLGBAYOVHT warning message ontheprimarypage. If asystemfaultis detectedbytheunit, asignalis senttotheEICAS todisplay aMLGOVHTFAIL caution message ontheprimarypage.
The warningof anoverheat condition,alertsthepilotto immediatelylower thelandinggear toreduce thelandinggeartemperature. The warning messagewillpersist untilthe temperature in the wheel wellbin returns tonormallimits.
