The APis annunciated withlights atthe sideoftheAPENG switch ontheFCPand agreen APmessage ontheEICAS statuspage. DuringAP synchronization,theAP annunciation changesto amber.
AwarningforAPengagementduringtake-
offis annunciated with aredCONFIGAP message on theEICASpimarypage and a“CONFIGAUTOPILOT”auralalert.
Turbulence mode reduces autopilotgain so thatflight control computerresponse to turbulent flight conditions is slowedandaircraft motion is smoother. Turbulence modeis selectedby pushingtheTURB switch ontheFCP Turbulence mode cannotbe selected,ifthe on-side localizer is captured, oriftheAPis disengaged. Turbulence mode can be clearedby pushingtheTURB switchagain,by anon-
sidelocalizer capture or byAPdisengagement.

The autopilot can bedisengaged manuallybyanyofthefollowing: W Pushing eitherAP/SPDISC switch onthecontrolwheels W PushingtheAPENG switch ontheflight controlpanel W LoweringtheAPDISC switch-bar ontheflight controlpanel(a redline becomes visible) W Operating either stabilizer trimswitch on the control wheels W PressingeitherTOGA switch onthe thrustlevers W Switchingto the standbyFCC W Pressingtheyaw damperDISCpushbutton on theyaw damperpanel. Disengagementoftheautopilot causes acavalry charge auralalertto soundandtheAP
indication ontheprimaryflightdisplay(PFD)turns red. The autopilotdisengage warningwill automatically cancel, afterapproximatelytwo repetitions ofthe cavalry charge, when a disengagementis mutuallyinduced.
