When the autopilot is in IAS or vertical speed mode withtheflightdirectorengaged,theflightdirectormay command excursions beyond VMO/MMO.
Flightdirectors are simultaneouslyturned on byeither selecting avertical mode, selecting alateral mode, orbyengagingtheautopilot. Flightdirectorselection activates allflight control mode annunciations andpresents steering commandsforthe selected mode(s). Whenbothflightdirectors are turnedon,byengagingtheautopilot,basic modes(pitchand roll) are automatically selected. Whenbothflightdirectors are turned on,by selecting avertical orlateralmode,basic modes are automatically selectedfor theotheraxis.
Transfer mode controls therouting offlightguidance commandstotheautopilotand flightdirectors. Whentransfermodeis selected,the copilot’s flightguidance command drives bothflightdirectors. Whennottransferred,thepilot’s flightguidance command drives bothflightdirectors.
