1. DC ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Five transformer rectifierunits(TRU’s)andtwo batteries (Main and APU)providethe aircraft withDC electricalpower. DCpower is also available through anexternalDCreceptacle on therightaftfuselage.
A. Transformer Rectifier Units (TRU)
There are five TRU’s locatedin thenose avionics compartment. EachTRU converts 115VACinputpower to28VDCoutputpower forpoweringtheaircraftDCbuses. The TRU’s are rated at100 amps. Normaldistribution oftheTRUoutputsis shown in the followingtable:

B. Batteries
The main andAPUnickel-cadmium batteries andtheir battery chargers are locatedin theaftequipment compartment. Thebatteries provide DCpowertotheir respective DC batterydirectbuses.
The 17AMP./HR, 24,volt main batteryprovidesbackuppower tothe attitudeheading reference system(AHRS), proximity sensing electronic unit(PSEU), data concentrator units (DCU’s), aircraft clocks, andthe APU electronic control unit(ECU).The main battery also provides power tothe flight compartmentlightingsystem.
The 17AMP./HR, 24volt, main batteryprovidesbackuppower totheinertial reference system(IRS), proximity sensing electronicunit(PSEU), data concentratorunits (DCU’s), aircraft clocks, andthe APU electronic control unit(ECU). The mainbattery also provides powertothe flight compartmentlightingsystem. <0025>
The 43AMP./HR, 24volt, APUbatteryprovidesthe cranking powerforstartingthe APU.

Battery chargers maintain thebatteries atfull charge. The main battery chargeris poweredfrom ACUtilitybus 1andthe APUbatterycharger ispoweredfromthe AC Utilitybus 2. Batterychargingis controlled automatically. Each charger monitors the battery voltageandtemperature to controlthebattery charge rate.If a battery reaches the overtemperature setpoint(as sensedbythe charger),the chargingwillstopto prevent overheating(thermal runaway).
