The refuelingoperation can beinitiatedin automatic ormanual mode. Automatic mode allows therequiredtotalaircraftfuelquantityto be preselected. Inautomatic mode,the fuelsystem computer (FSC) controlsthe distribution ofthe fuelbyfilling the wingtanks before allowinganyfueltobeloadedintothe centertank. Highleveldetectors located atthe top of eachtankpreventfueltank overfillingduring refueling operations by closingthe refuel shut-off valves.
Refueling ofindividualtanks is possible in manual modeby manuallyopeningand closingthe refuel shut-off valves from thecontrolpanel.
The defuelmodeis similar to the manual mode exceptthatdefuelingis selected.
The test mode checks thattheFSC, highleveldetectors andrefuel/defuel shutoff valves are operatingproperly.
