Afuelsystemcomputer (FSC) automatically controls refueling, poweredfuel crossflowand fueltransfer. The FSCalso measures thefuelquantityandtemperature fordisplay on the engine indication andcrew alertingsystem(EICAS).
The EICASFUELsynoptic pageshows adiagram ofthefueldistribution system. Operation ofthe ejectors, pumpsand shutoff valves are graphicallydisplayed. Anyfaultdetectedby theFSCis annunciatedin theformofvisualand/oraural messages. Faults are also displayed on the refuel/defuelpanelin theformoffault codes.

1. FUEL STORAGE
Fuelis storedin two main wingtanks andonecenter wingtank. In flight, as the wingtank fuelquantitydecreases, theFSCwill automaticallytransfer fuelfrom the center tankto the wingtanks to maintain lateralbalance.
A. Collector Tanks
Two collector tanks are locatedin theforward section ofthe center wingtank. Fuel fromeach wingtankis fedunderpressure toits respective collector tankby scavenge ejectors. The collector tankcapacityis 10gallons (38liters)and whenthetankis full, excess fuelis ventedbackto the respective wingtank. Fuelcan also be fedfromthe wingtanks to the associated collectortankbygravity. There is no migration offuelfrom thecentertankintothe collector tanks. A main fuelejectorin each collector tankis immersedin fuelandis usedto ensure apositive supply offueltotheengines. The boostpumps normally supplyfueltotheengines forstart.
