1. RUDDER
Directionalcontrolabouttheyaw axis is providedbythe ruddercontrolsystemandassisted byyaw dampers.
The rudderis hydraulicallypoweredbythree powercontrolunits(PCU’s)locatedin the verticalstabilizer. The PCUs receive mechanicalinputsfromthe rudderpedals via cable runs andquadrants. Eachhydraulic systempowers oneofthethree PCU’s. Bothsetsof pedals move simultaneously whenoperatedfromeitherthepilot or the copilot station. Two yaw dampers (controlledbytheflight control computers)are connectedto the rudder control systemand are usedto improve the aircraftlateralstability.
