Two independentyawdampersystemsoperate continuouslyin flighttoimprove theaircraft directional stability andturn coordination bydamping out oscillations inyaw. The yaw dampers are engagedbypushingtheYD1andYD2 switchlights on theYAWDAMPER panel. Eachyaw damperactuatorautomatically respondtoinputs receivedfrom oneflight control computer (FCC). If ayaw damperfailure occurs,itwillbe disconnectedfromthe FCC’s control. Oneyaw dampersystemmustbeengagedtoengagetheautopilot.
NOTE
Duringgroundoperations,powerswitchingoftheAPU generator to IDG 2, and vice versa, will cause a momentary power loss on DC Bus 2, which will disengage Yaw Damper #2. To re-
engage Yaw Damper #2, wait 30 seconds (with the aircraft stationary)before pressingtheYD2 switchlight.
