Additionally, the NBAA Airports Handbook was redesigned to document as clearly as possible how airports serve as essential community assets, providing a positive economic impact and facilitating face-to-face business communica-tions. The updated publication shows Members how they can work with airports to ensure access, promote aviation safety and security, and serve as airport advocates. The handbook includes a DVD titled Your Community Airport, which demonstrates the value of local airports through real-world examples. Also, NBAA recently developed a compan-ion PowerPoint presentation with speaker notes, available only online, to be used in conjunction with the handbook at community events.
New operAtioNAl solutioNs
During the past year, NBAA has rolled out several new op-erationally oriented solutions for Members.
The Association now offers an online resource to help Mem-bers comply with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Ad-vance Passenger Information System (APIS) requirements. CBP requires all civil aircraft to provide passenger manifest and aircraft information prior to departure for all international flights to or from the United States. This tool, offered exclu-sively to Members through ARINC Direct Business Aviation Solutions, enables operators to quickly and easily submit, modify and store APIS data.
Another new Member benefit is a 10-percent discount on the Complete Aeromedical Services Program offered by Virtual Flight Surgeons (VFS). Recognizing the importance of professional and timely aeromedical assistance, NBAA partnered with VFS so that Members can avoid situations that could jeopardize the medical certificates of their pilots. The program includes confidential e-mail and phone con-sultations with a physician, FAA waiver advocacy and case preparation, FAA follow-up reporting and renewal submis-sion, flight physiology information, and medical procedures and programs review.

To further enhance its operational support of Members, NBAA announced in 2009 plans to offer Safety Management System (SMS) Workshops in 2010, and NBAA also offers materials, such as discounts on the IS-BAO Manual, to help Members develop, implement and maintain a compliant SMS. Inter-national Civil Aviation Organization standards specify that by November 2010, an SMS requirement be incorporated into national safety regulations for operators of non-commercial aircraft over 12,500 pounds or turbojet-powered aircraft.
