Two VHF radio communication systems provideAMvoice communication with ground stations and other aircraft. AthirdVHFsystem isused as adata link only. The radios work withtheaudio integratingsystemtoprovide fulltwo way communication. The audio control panels provideselection andcontrol oftheaudio outputs. The radio communication system is energized whenelectricalpoweris appliedto theaircraft. <0081><0084> Transceiver tuning rangeis 118.000to136.975MHz. Frequencytuningand mode selection is donebytwo primary radio tuningunits(RTU). Frequencytuning can also be doneby a backup standbytuningunit or theFMS controldisplayunit. A. Radio Tuning Unit The radio tuning units and radio systems have an on-side relationship. RTU1 monitors andcontrols COM1andRTU2 monitors andcontrols COM2. In the eventoftotalAC power loss orfailure ofboth radio tuningunits, thebackuptuningunitprovides reversionary control ofCOM1. Radio information is presented ontwo levels ofthe radio tuningunits. Thetoplevel pagedisplays theoverall statusofall radios andallows theoperatorto make frequency changes. ACOM main pageprovidesthe means tochangefrequencies, codesand operating modes. The active VHFCOMfrequencyis shown on thetop lefthand side ofthe radio tuning unittoplevelpage, while thepresetfrequencyis displayed onthetop righthand side. Pressingtheline selectkeyadjacenttoanyfrequencybringsthe tuning windowtothat frequency. Itis thenpossible to modifythatfrequency withthefrequency selectknobs. Pressingtheline selectkeyadjacenttothepresetfrequencytwice, swapsthe active frequency withthepresetfrequency. Pressingtheline selectkeyadjacenttothe active frequencytwice,bringsuptheCOMmain page. Onthe main page,pressingtheline selectkeyadjacenttotheSQUELCHfieldtoggles thesquelchON orOFF. The selected stateis displayedin large cyan letters. The inactive stateis displayed in smallerwhite letters. Ifnoentryis made onthemain page within 20 seconds, the radio tuningunitdisplay willreturn to the defaulttoplevelpage. Ifthe squelchis selectedOFF, aSQOFF messageis displayed on thetoplevelpage. Since SquelchONis consideredthe normaloperating modeitis notdisplayed on the toplevelpage. When aCOMtransceiveris transmitting, aTX annunciation is displayed in cyan letters below andtothe rightofthe active frequencyfield onthetoplevelpage. |
