B. Backup (Standby) Tuning Unit
Under normal conditions thebackuptuning unitis in standby modeand acts asa systemmonitordisplayingthe echoedfrequencies from the radios. Thebackuptuning unitprovides radio controlin the eventoftheloss ofboth radio tuningunitsand the flight managementsystem. Theactive frequencies are storedin non-volatile memory andcan be recalled afterapower interruption.
Whenthebackuptuningunitis switchedon,ittakes overcontroloftheleft sideVHF COM1andNAV1, andoverridesallother controls.
Radio tuningunitinhibit switches, on thebackuptuningunit, are usedto disable afailed primary radio tuningunit. Cross-sidetuning can thenbe accessedby usingthe1/2 cross-sidekey on the serviceable radio tuningunit. Not all available radios can be displayed on the radio tuningunit at once. Switchingbackandforth withthe1/2keyis requiredto displayall ofthe radios. Whenboth radio tuningunitsfail, thedisplays go blankand cross-sidetuningbecomes inoperative.

RTU INHIBIT PUSH
Usedto disable afailed radiotuning unit andenable cross-
sidetuning.
RTU1 or 2INHIBIT(white) light comes on to indicate that radio tuningunit is disabled.
FMS TUNE INHIBIT
Usedto inhibit the auto tune functions of the FMS.
Transponder Selector Switch
1 -
Number1transponderis activated;
number 2transponder onstandby.
STBY -
Bothtransponders on standby.
2 -
Number2transponderis activated;
number 1transponder onstandby.
Frequency Readouts
Displays frequencies set on COM 1andNAV 1 radios.

Tuning Selector
Selects COM1 or NAV 1for tuning.
TX Indicator
Indicates that VHF 1transceiver is transmitting.
