1. PASSENGER DOOR
The passengerdooris located attheforwardleft side ofthefuselageandis themain entrance andexittothe cabin area.
The passengerdoorincorporatesintegral stairs with aretractable lower stepandfolding handrails. Thedooris hingedatthe cabin floor levelandopensoutward. A counter-
balance mechanismwithgas springsis usedtotake theweightofthedoorandto dampenthedoor movement Atthefullyopenposition,thedoorrests on asupport wheel.
Handrails are providedto assistpassengers in boardinganddisembarking. Mechanical linkages raise thehandrails whenthedooris openedand collapse themwhenthedooris closed. When ajetwayis used,thehandrails mustbe collapsed. Collapsing ofthehandrails is doneby removingtheforwardandafthandrailquick-
release pins (Referto Loweringthe StairHandrails).
Closingthepassengerdoorfrom insidethe aircraftis normally accomplished usingthe powerassistsystemwhichiscontrolledfromaDOORASSISTswitchlight on the forward fightattendantspanel.
DonotoperatetheDoorAssistsystemwhenswitching aircraft power from the APU generator to external power.
The passengerdoor statusis displayed on theEICASprimarypagein theformof warning andcaution messagesand ontheDOOR synoptic page. The DOOR synoptic pageis displayed when selectedfrom theEICAS controlpanel.
A. Opening the Door from Inside
To openthedoorfrom inside:

Lifttheinner handle outofits cam recess. W The outerhandle ejects fromits recess W The latch mechanismunlocks W The pressurization flap onthepassengerdoor’s exterior surface opens.

Continue theupward movementofthehandle to theOPENposition. W The latch cams andlatchpins disengagefromthe doorframe fittings W Fwdandaftpull-
outlevers openthedoortothe nearvertical(balanced)
position.
(3)
Firmlypushthedooroutward.
