1. INTRODUCTION
The environmentalcontrolsystem(ECS)providestemperature andpressure regulatedair forheating, ventilatingandpressurizingtheflightandpassengercompartments. Exhaust air, from thecompartments, is usedto ventilatethe avionics andcargo compartments, before beingdumped overboardthroughtwo outflow valves.
For groundoperations, pneumatic air to operatetheECS can beobtainedfrom:
W Agroundair supply cart connectedto the aircraft
W The auxiliarypower unit(APU)
W Eitherorbothengines.
Duringflight,theengines normally supplybleedair for operatingtheair-conditioning, pressurization, and avionics coolingsystems.
ECS warningsandcautions are displayed onthe engine indication andcrew alertingsystem (EICAS)primarypage. ECSadvisoryand status messages are displayed ontheEICAS statuspage. Views oftheaircraftECStemperature,pressure, valve positions andsystem statusindications are displayed onthe EICASECS synoptic page.
