GPS Interface
GPS feed to the EFB can be accomplished in one of three ways:
1. A USB or Bluetooth enabled portable receiver
2. A panel mount GPS such as a Garmin 430, KLN 88 and so on
3. An FMS signal that has been converted from 429 ARINC to RS 232
In most installations of GPS will feed only one EFB. One USB GPS can supply only one EFB. The Bluetooth can only “talk” to one EFB at a time. Typically, the panel mount can only feed one EFB but we have seen installations where the signal was split. The only exceptions are the FMS converter GPS where the signal is split into 2 separate 232 signals from the single FMS 429 signal.
Portable GPS
The portable GPS either in USB or Bluetooth is the easiest way to have GPS capability on your EFB. Additionally, the USB is run by the EFB batteries providing a totally aircraft independent back up. The Bluetooth receiver has a 12 hour Lithium battery that is charged by the included AC adapter.
USB GPS
The USB GPS is a small round device with 5 Ft. of cable provided to connect to the USB Port on the EFB. These are modified units designed for ADR to not interfere with the Whisky Compass. Power is provided to the unit through the USB connection. The drivers for this device are loaded on the FG-7000X but the FG-1620 will need the individual drivers loaded.
