GPS Data Tests
GPS Data Flow Checks
Once the converter has been installed and the proper connection to the EFB is in place, testing can be accomplished in several ways. The easiest way to test GPS input is to bring up an approach plate utilizing Jeppesen FliteDeck. Make sure the “geo referenced” symbol is present. This will allow the winged locator to be displayed on the airport diagram. If you are at an airfield that is not geo referenced, the gpstest.exe will be the simplest test. You must have FliteDeck installed in order to conduct this test.
Without FliteDeck installed, you will need to access the Hyperterminal to look at the raw data. This will be a data stream of raw GPS data that would indicate a working connection. Please refer to the Shadin install document for any issues related to the converter. Please call ADR’s help desk for questions concerning the EFB.

How to access gpstest.exe (for users with FliteDeck installed)
1. Open explorer, tapping the checkbox and then tapping the “continue” button if asked.
2. On the left side, tap the plus sign to the left of My Computer
3. On the left side, tap the plus sign to the left of the C Drive
4. On the left side, tap the plus sign to the left of Jeppesen
5. On the left side, tap the GPS folder (it will highlight blue)
6. On the right side, double tap the GPSTest.exe file
7. Select the appropriate GPS device and Com (serial) port in the provided boxes. If your COM port is not a selection; you may type it in the box
8. Uncheck the Show Raw Data box if desired, this will prevent the flow of all data that is received from the GPS and only show position information.
9. Tap the Connect button to begin testing your GPS.
10. Tap Cancel when finished.
