Purpose of this document
This document is designed to assist flight departments and completion centers with the installation of their Electronic Flight Bags. Advanced Data Research (ADR) has been continuously improving our EFBs for over 7 years. We have assisted on thousands of installations and feel this development expertise should be distributed to the EFB customer.
ADR is not performing the installations, guaranteeing certification, obtaining TSOs or STCs. We are providing the information as a guide to basic installation. We have FMS interface solutions, universal mounting solutions, power requirements and general installation guidelines. Specific certification questions should be directed to your local FAA representative. For our Certified EFBs, ADR utilizes commercial off the shelf (COTS) devices that undergo a custom integration for use on the flight deck. For certified EFBs please consult with ADR for the FG-7000X and FG-8000 EFBs. Our certified EFBs are tested under DO-160E and have specific modifications to be installed in a certified environment. The FG-1620 has no formal testing beyond FCC, UL and CE consumer testing. The FG-1620 is considered an EFB CLASS I or possibly a Class II as determined by your operational approval. The operational requirement of being visible for takeoff and landing, and the type of application being utilized, will determine the classification.
Any questions regarding 3rd party software should be directed to the vendor directly. In a general sense, all Windows programs will run on the EFB as long as the FG-1620 meets the software’s system requirements. Approach plates and moving map programs are direct relationship transactions between the end user and the solutions provider. However, ADR does take an active interest in the needs of our customers and we will evaluate solutions on a case-by-case basis.
