The Association is committed to extending Member ben-efits to more people, and to that end, in 2010, it partnered with various type clubs and regional groups in its recruit-ment efforts. NBAA also increased its online market-ing presence; developed an integrated direct marketing program; and added a tele-sales consultant who helped attract more than 700 Mem-bers during the year.
Last, the Association con-tinued to develop its official Member publication, Busi-ness Aviation Insider, by adopting a new magazine design and format; increas-
ing readership through improved subscription management; and offering “online extras” through the publication’s home page and dedicated Facebook page.
NBAA otherwise expanded its efforts to connect with the industry online through an active presence on Face-book, Twitter and YouTube, and through increased origi-nal content published via the NBAA Update e-newsletter and the award-winning web site, www.nbaa.org.
During 2010, NBAA presented a variety of awards to recog-nize the achievements of the business aviation community.
meritorious service to aviation awarD
The prestigious Meritorious Service Award is given to indi-
viduals who, through a lifetime of dedication, have made sig-nificant identifiable contributions that have advanced avia-tion interests. The 2010 recipient was Arnold Palmer, the legendary golfer and esteemed business-man who serves as a voice for the No Plane No Gain ad-vocacy campaign. Palmer is not only an American icon, but also a highly respected advocate for business aviation. As a professional golfer he won nearly 100 championships, but he also knows first-hand the importance of business avia-tion. Because Palmer’s business is located in Latrobe, PA – a town not served by airlines – business aviation has been a vital element in the success of his enterprises.
John p. “Jack” Doswell awarD
Chuck McKinnon, a busi-ness pilot and aviation legend, received the 2010 Doswell Award for his pioneering role in business aviation and his pivotal leadership in unlocking the industry’s future in the U.S., Europe and beyond. A former airline pilot, McKinnon was tapped in 1954 to fly IBM’s first business airplane, which was used to transport company engineers to locations across the country. As IBM’s flight department grew, McKinnon established a com-pany aviation facility just outside Paris, France. That base, called IBM Euroflight, was the first U.S. business aviation operation in Europe.
