The campaign also provided support for local mobilization initia-tives that have brought together hundreds of local business and elected leaders to showcase the contributions business avia-tion to local economies. For instance, a No Plane No Gain event hosted by the Colorado Aviation Business Association (CABA) at Centennial Airport held in April 2010 connected more than 350 local leaders. The Colorado event, and others like it, helped galvanize the industry with a united message.
Of course, the advocacy campaign’s
momentum in 2010 was also bol-
stered by new resources for people
in the industry, such as NBAA’s updated Business Aviation Fact Book, four new advocacy videos and a new study showing that small to medium-size enterprises that use business aircraft outperform those that don’t.
As the industry continued to make its voice heard, the ranks of support for business aviation among policy leaders continued to swell. By the conclusion of 2010, a host of congressional law-makers had joined General Aviation Caucuses in the House and Senate, translating into greater awareness of the importance of business aviation. In fact, in the course of the year, Congress passed a joint resolution recognizing the industry’s efforts to pro-vide humanitarian relief to Haiti’s earthquake victims; reaffirmed support for the vital role of general aviation airports in remote areas; and supported tax legislation allowing for accelerated depreciation on strategic business purchases, including aircraft.
Equally important, governors in 19 states issued proclamations echoing No Plane No Gain themes in recognizing business avia-tion’s contributions to their states.
