This award recognizes the spirit of service demonstrated by humanitarian leaders within the business aviation community. Al Ueltschi, the award’s namesake, has been widely recognized for his lifetime of dedica-tion to philanthropic causes, including ORBIS, a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing blindness and saving sight. The Ueltschi Award for 2010 went to the volunteers involved in the historic airlift of relief supplies to earthquake-ravaged Haiti. In the weeks following the disas-ter, business aircraft flew more than 800 missions, carrying 3,800 passengers (including doctors and other first respond-ers) and more than 1.4 million pounds of food, water, medi-cine and medical equipment. Also, the desperately ill and injured were evacuated to U.S. hospitals on the return flights. As a result, countless lives were not only touched, but saved.
