In 2010, NBAA continued its work to advocate for the busi-ness aviation community on a range of legislative and regula-tory issues, from the need to modernize the nation’s aviation system, to preserving access to airports and airspace, to actively participating in the debates about aircraft fuel emis-sions and alternative fuels, to supporting proposals that help companies gain access to the benefits of business aviation.

supporting moDernization
As Congress continued work to finalize a measure for reauthorizing the FAA and modernizing the air traffic control system, NBAA remained unified with the rest of the general aviation (GA) community in supporting proposals for GA to help fund the development of a “Next Generation” (Next-Gen) aviation system by building upon the proven, efficient fuel tax mechanism for GA in lieu of new user fees.
Accelerating the transition to a satellite-based air transpor-tation system will advance a number of important national objectives: it will enable further reductions in the industry’s environmental footprint; it will reduce long-term costs for the FAA; it will enhance safety; it will expand system capacity, and; it will reduce delays. While Congress authorized numer-ous FAA funding extensions, NBAA continued to advocate for a longer-term reauthorization bill that placed NextGen on a firm path to realization.
In November, NBAA also submitted comments for consider-ation by the Future of Aviation Advisory Committee, urging the committee to consider the value of business aviation to the nation’s economy and transportation system in its policy-development work.

preserving access
In 2010, NBAA continued to fulfill its longstanding mission to ensure that access to airports and airspace – a cornerstone of business aviation operations – would be preserved.
