NBAA has always supported legislative proposals that help companies gain access to the benefits of business avia-tion, so, the Association welcomed legislation, approved by Congress and signed into law by President Obama in Sep-tember, that included a provision for “bonus depreciation,” to accelerate cost recovery of strategic business purchases in 2010, including business aircraft. The bonus depreciation measure passed in September was followed by another bill, signed into law in December, that raised the ante by allowing businesses 100-percent bonus depreciation of investments in new aircraft, through December 31, 2011, retroactive from September 8, 2010, and a bonus depreciation allowance of 50 percent during 2012.
NBAA noted that the bills expanding and extending the tax benefits would preserve manufacturing jobs, while also giving companies immediate access to the efficiency, pro-ductivity and competitive advantages provided through the purchase and use of business aircraft.
The bonus depreciation measures passed in 2010 capped off a series of measures introduced by Congress that rec-ognized the importance of business aviation. The measures highlighting the industry’s value are thanks in part to the formation of congressional General Aviation Caucuses, which by year’s end included 125 House members and 31 senators.

Safety has always been a top priority for the NBAA and its Members, and in 2010, the Association and industry dem-onstrated a continued commitment to the safety of flight by producing events and resources for Members in the U.S. and around the world.

For example, NBAA’s safety-themed events enjoyed in-creased participation and attendance. The 55th Annual Corporate Aviation Safety Seminar (CASS) in Tucson, AZ, attracted more than 400 attendees. CASS, which is co-sponsored by the Flight Safety Foundation, is recognized as the premier forum for the discussion and exchange of safety information for business aviation operations.
