This award acknowledges individuals who share their outstand-ing business aviation industry expertise, provide extraordinary service, exhibit leadership and have made significant contribu-tions to the scheduling and dispatching function. The 2010 recipient was Fred Towers of Universal Weather & Aviation, a veteran of Part 91 and 135 operations who is known for devel-oping international trip planning and customer-service training programs.

George Larson, senior editor of Business & Commercial Avia-

tion, received the 2010 NBAA David W. Ewald Platinum Wing Award for his decades of commit-ment to business aviation, including stints at Business & Commercial Aviation, Flying and Air & Space magazines. The 2010 NBAA Gold Wing Award, presented for excel-lent, accurate and insightful report-ing on business aviation issues, was presented to Stephen Pope, senior editor of Aviation International News, for his coverage of a business aviation flight that provided relief to earthquake victims in Haiti.

This award is given to individuals as recognition of their con-tributions to the business aviation community at the regional level, or for their participation in NBAA committees, projects or initiatives. The 2010 recipients included Jim Hollenbeck of ConAgra Foods, Leo Prusak of LaGuardia Tower, Dave Small and Jeff Agur of the Georgia Business Aviation Association, H. Beau Altman of H. Beau Altman Corp., IBM’s Jeffrey W. Lee, Travis Vallin of Colorado’s Department of Aviation and Massa-chusetts State Representative Donald F. Humason, Jr.

flYing safetY awarDs

The NBAA Flying Safety Awards recognize the accident-free records compiled by Member Company management, mainte-nance, pilot and support personnel teams.
In 2010, Lane Aviation Corp. and South Carolina Aeronautics Commission won the inaugural 75 Year Safe Flying Achieve-ment Award. In 2010, three companies received awards for flying 60 years or more without an accident: CSX Corporation Aviation Department, General Mills and KaiserAir. In addition, six companies achieved 50 years or more of flying without an accident: Aerodynamics, Inc., Avista, Campbell Soup, Nation-wide Aviation Business Center, Procter & Gamble and Sentry Insurance (a Mutual Company).
