Business aircraft usage in Europe averages 0.60 flights per day. When broken down between charter fleets and corporate users, the numbers are quite different, with charter fleet aircraft estimated at 0.67 flights per day (just under five per week), and corporate aircraft at 0.3 flights per day (two flights per week).

Business aviation is growing. The driving forces are: growing corporate and personal spending power; globalisation that means companies are increasingly spread across many locations and countries; new technol-ogy that makes business aviation increasingly efficient and affordable; new business models that suit new customers; and travellers who are less willing to accept the perceived or actual hassles of travelling by scheduled services.
There are a number of areas where further investigation is needed, especially:

The way in which the differing flight level requirements of business aviation and the rest of the industry will interact in the future;

Peaks in demand at airports on particular days: when they occur and how they could better be mitigated;

At the same time, how to improve procedures for giving business avi-ation access to capacity-constrained airports;

How to make the most of the complementary aspects of business and scheduled demand, especially as a way to manage the growing lack of capacity at major airports by growing business aviation at sec-ondary airports;
